FAQs

When should I book a trip?

We run trips from May through September as the bite for pelagic species such as ling (cobia) kingfish, sharks and many other species is hot. Red snapper season always starts on June 1st and closes each year AROUND August 16th in federal waters (beyond 9 miles offshore).

Do I need to take a license to go fishing?

Yes. For any fishing trip, you will need a State of Texas Fishing License.  You can buy your license online from the link below!

What do I need to bring on a trip?

All gear, bait and tackle are provided. All you need to bring is your food, drinks and sunscreen. However, you may bring your own gear if you wish.

Are your trips kid friendly?

Yes! There is nothing better than watching kids on the boat catch fish. We pride ourselves on family friendly trips and do everything that we can to make sure the younger generations on board enjoy their experience too.

Cancellations made by Top Shelf Fishing

In case of weather-related cancellations, or cancellations due to circumstances beyond the captains control, you will have the option of either a full refund of the deposit or the option of moving the date of the trip.

Cancellations made by clients

Failure to pay in full at the dock before the trip or failure to show up for the trip are conditions which are considered a cancellation by you; therefore, no refund of the deposit will be given.
The deposit is 200.00 for all trips.

What permits does the captain/boat obtain?

Allen Jakubik is a USCG licensed captain. The captain/boat holds both pelagic and reef permits which are required by law for obtaining reef/pelagic fish beyond 9 miles offshore.
